About Us

We created MitigateMurphy after finding out first hand how quickly things can go wrong and what a delay in help may mean.

A neighbour suffered a fall some years ago and succumbed to her injuries having sadly only been discovered a bit too late.

One of our parents suffered a medical emergency (fell and broke his hip) alone at home and was unable to reach the phone to call for help. The delay in getting help was likely critical in that instance even though they were not really isolated with neighbours regularly checking in and family visiting and calling regularly, it just happened at the wrong time on the wrong day and nobody visited for a couple of days.

We had another scare shortly after with a different parent having a medical event leaving her somewhat disoriented, she was able to call for help but could easily not have been.

We looked for a solution to our problem thinking it cannot be that unique, but nothing quite did what we wanted or needed. The available services relied on the person in distress acting and calling for help, pressing a button or dialing a service. What we needed is something to act when the person in trouble can't

Our mission is to make “just checking in” convenient, simple, flexible, and automatic so that unfortunate timing of an incident or skipping a planned visit does not cause avoidable harm or loss and the guilt that often results.

We are privacy-minded, user-first, and committed to building tools that empower independence without sacrificing convenience or privacy any more than necessary to achieve the desired outcomes.

MitigateMurphy is not a replacement for emergency services. If you’re able to call for help, always do so. This app is a backup, designed to act when you can’t.
